Elena Romero, Advertising and Marketing Communications, made her professional TV reporting debut as a TV correspondent for the new monthly magazine show LATiNAS on CUNY TV. Romero joined the host, Emmy-winner Tinabeth Piña, and other correspondents, covering the stories of Latinas at home, in business, in politics, and in entertainment. The show debuted Sept. 10, on Spectrum and Cablevision/Optimum (channel 75); RCN (channel 77); Verizon (channel 30); and digital broadcast (channel 25.3). The current episode will be rebroadcast throughout September. (You can also watch the first episode below.)
Romero’s first segment focused on Latinas and diabetes. She interviewed Dr. Mariely Fernandez at the Center for Comprehensive Health Practice in East Harlem to find out what Latinas need to know about the disease. Throughout the season, Romero will cover a variety of stories—from serious to lighthearted—around the topics of entertainment, religion, education, philanthropy, fashion, and more.
Romero has been known primarily as a print journalist over her 25-year career, having published in WWD, DNR, Sportswear International, the New York Post, Vibe, and Remezcla.com. She is the author of Free Stylin’: How Hip Hop Changed the Fashion Industry.
