FIT President Joyce F. Brown has been named to City & State magazine’s 2021 Higher Education Power 100. This annual list recognizes the top leaders in New York State higher education—college presidents, deans, chancellors, public officials, and philanthropists. The list is based on activities beyond graduation rates and class sizes, focusing instead on leadership qualities such as participation on the boards of community-based organizations, shaping policies, and crafting solutions to societal challenges.

Active in numerous community, civic, and professional organizations, Dr. Brown serves as president of the FIT Foundation, an advisory and support body to FIT. She is a director of AFFOA (Advanced Functional Fabrics of America) and the Park Avenue Armory and a trustee of the Culinary Institute of America and the Economic Club of New York. She is also a Clean Revolution Ambassador for the Climate Group. In addition, she has served on statewide commissions and task forces on the Black family, child care, and domestic violence. She has been honored by numerous educational, cultural, and civic organizations including New York University, Marymount College, Clark Atlanta University, The Town Hall, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

The list also included SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras, citing his service on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 task force.
