Nomi Dale Kleinman, chair and associate professor, Textile/Surface Design, published an article in the summer issue of the Surface Design Journal.

In the interview-style piece, titled “Jose Picayo: An Indirect Transfer of Knowledge,” Kleinman spoke with Picayo about his relationship with famous weaver Ethel Stein while she was finishing her weaving career and he was starting his.

In the article, Kleinman asked Picayo about his switch from photography to weaving, the rekindling of his friendship with Stein a decade ago, and the ways she influenced him through her work and advice.

“Ethel taught me that you’re never too old and art is your own,” Picayo said.
