Shawn Grain Carter, associate professor of Fashion Business Management, was recognized by the HistoryMakers organization for her distinguished career as a senior executive in the fashion retail industry over several decades.
The HistoryMakers is a nonprofit research and educational institution committed to preserving and making widely accessible the untold personal stories of both well-known and unsung African Americans. Through the media and a series of products, services, and events, the HistoryMakers enlightens, entertains, and educates the public, helping to refashion a more inclusive record of American history. For its project, the organization interviewed Grain Carter twice earlier this year about her own history and career.
Grain Carter’s alma mater, the University of Virginia, also recognized her accomplishment.
