Fashion Business Management students Kaya Loy and Layla Stanfill received $5,000 Merchandising Society Scholarships last week at the spring semester opening of FIT’s Style Shop, the on-campus boutique that funds the scholarships through its profits. The Merchandising Society is a student club that operates the shop, so the scholarships not only represent the growth in the business of the shop but the support the students have for one another and investment in their futures.

Both Loy and Stanfill work in the Style Shop and plan to use the money they are receiving to help offset their tuition and school costs/student loans. “This will help offset the sacrifices I’ve had to make financially so I can focus more on my studies,” Stanfill said. “It really eases the financial burden.”

“It’s such an honor being rewarded with this scholarship,” said Loy, who is currently a sophomore getting her associate’s degree. “I’m using the money for my tuition and will be getting started on my bachelor’s, continuing in Fashion Business Management in the fall.”
