Four Professors Present at Academic Conference in Hangzhou, China

Four of FIT’s professors took part in the Second Sino-U.S. Bilateral Academic Conference on Museums Advancing Design Higher Education held at the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou, China, last month.

At the global conference, Assistant Professor Joshua Whitehead of Communication Design presented on “Lighted Earth: An Indigenous Exhibition at the Museum of Art and Design, FIT”; Adjunct Assistant Professor Michael Kaye of Fashion presented on “Museum Mentorship and the Fashion Design Student”; Assistant Professor Tetsuo Tamanaha of Fashion presented on “Digitalization of Museum Artifacts: Reviving Historical Costumes with 3D Technology”; and Assistant Chair and Assistant Professor Elena Romero of Marketing Communications presented on “Hip Hop Design and Digital Technology: Exploring Innovation in Museums and Fashion Education.”

The one-day global conference brought academic scholars and students together to foster dialogue between China and other nations, particularly the U.S. and Europe. The professors’ attendance at the conference in Hangzhou coincided with their participation in FIT’s longstanding teaching program with Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU), which is managed by Brian Walters in the Office of International Programs.
