Fashion Design AAS Exhibition: Fire and Ice

April 27-May 1; opening reception, Tuesday, April 26, 6-9 pm

John E. Reeves Great Hall

Graduating students in the Fashion Design AAS program present their works inspired by fire and ice. President Joyce F. Brown will present the Critic Awards in a ceremony at 6:30 pm during the opening reception. “Fire and Ice” is a conceptual theme to inspire the graduating students to explore boundaries and concepts as they express their vision, research, and personal journey through their creations. The theme references the before, during, and after effects of the elements of fire and ice. For example, fire turns into ash, which could lead to a color story or textural direction. This approach can be expanded and evolved into a climatic direction; i.e., what causes fire and ice to develop? How do we deal with the changes created by fire and ice as they affect the planet? What damage can fire cause? How does the lack of ice/water affect the planet, region, locality? What happens when the ice melts and the waters rise? The juxtaposition of these diametrically opposed forces conjures fanciful imagery.
