SUNY Press/Excelsior Editions has just released a book by Marcia Biederman, a longtime instructor in the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies’ ESL and the Fashion Business summer programs. Popovers and Candlelight: Patricia Murphy and the Rise and Fall of a Restaurant Empire is the true story of the founder of Patricia Murphy’s Candlelight Restaurants, a chain of nine fabulous eateries that were wildly popular in New York and Florida throughout much of the 20th century. Murphy was a pioneer in branding, with her own line of fragrances, which she sold at her restaurant gift shops.
Biederman will discuss her book in an author talk at the Brooklyn Public Library‘s main branch at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 28. The library is located at 10 Grand Army Plaza.
