Film, Media, and the Performing Arts Assistant Chair Awarded Grant, Work Featured in Show

Michelle Handelman has been awarded an unrestricted Art Matters grant of $10,000 for the development of her new film project Hustlers and Empires based on the obscure 1968 Fellini film Toby Dammit. Shooting begins this summer. Also, Handelman’s four-screen film project Dorian, A Cinematic Perfume will be featured at Leslie-Lohman Museum in the exhibition Irreverent: A Celebration of Censorship, from February 13 to May 3. The exhibition looks at the history of censorship of queer art and discusses the censorship of Handelman’s work when it was shut down at The Contemporary Austin museum, in Texas in 2011. To promote the exhibition, Leslie-Lohman museum will feature images of Handelman’s work on street banners placed throughout Soho. For more information, contact Michelle Handelman, 73352.
