Stephanie Pierce, Fine Arts faculty, mounted a solo show of new and never-before-seen work at Jupiter, a contemporary art gallery in Miami. The show, titled Simple Pleasures, was on view Oct. 8–Nov. 18.
The works in this show continue in Pierce’s tradition of painting a subject while observing it over a period of months or years, capturing what the gallery calls “the effervescent fluidity of passing time.”
Though the softly geometric patterns of color that emerge as thin washes of paint are layered one upon another so as to create a translucent kaleidoscopic effect of refracted light continue to characterize her work, the paintings on view now evidence a newfound stillness.
Pierce’s work was also recently featured in the exhibition Pattern, the Grid, and Other Systems in the FIT Art and Design Gallery on view October 27 through December 3, 2023.
